Della was born in Peters Township, Washington County, the daughter of David and Lucinda (Boyer) Higbee. She was a music teacher and married William Lester Kerr, 2 June 1921, as his second wife. Her brother-in-law, Harvey Grant McVicker, officiated. They lived in Valencia, north of Pittsburgh, in a house on the Butler Plank Road, near the Butler-Allegheny County line. Della moved back to Peters Twp, Washington Co, PA, as a widow, and died as a patient in Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, following surgery for gangrene.
