Jane Welch Banta was born 10-Sep-1809 [sic - see below] in Kentucky and arrived in Minnesota on 4-May-1834. She was the daughter of Samuel and Jeanette Welch of Pennsylvania. She died 4-Sep-1884 of paralysis.

Another section of this source text states: Jane Welch was born 19-Aug-1809, married Isaac on 5-Nov-1833, and died 14-Sep-1884. (The DoB conflicts with the first passage, above.)

The 19-Aug-1809 date is also found in the Welch family bible which is assumed correct and what has been used on this memorial.

On 18-Sep-1884 daughters Rebecca, Mary and Martha were stricken with "milk fever" and died. Sarah, the oldest, and James, the youngest, were spared. Later John, Jeannette and David were born. The family had moved to the Rice Street area in St Paul (near the state capitol building) in 1854 but later settled in Wyoming Township in 1857.

Isaac Banta & Jane Cunning were married on 5-Nov-1833.
