Sidsil Aslesdatter Bergsgaard was born in Norway on the farm Rimehaugen to parents Asle Olson Bergsgaard and Aagoth Larsdatter Rime. Aagoth lived in widowhood on the farm Rimehaug from 1814 to 1816 and about 1820 they moved to Bergsgaard from Rimehaug and lived there from 1840 to 1850. Sidsil moved to Northern Lan in Ordre from Aal on 30 May 1858 to be a maidservant at the rectory there and her son Lars, came with her. He was 13 years old at the time. Sidsil immigrated to the United States, according to the Norwegian Digital Archives on 27 Nov 1885. She had an illegitimate son, Lars Bergsgaard whose father was Ole Olson. Her first stop was Spring Grove, MN. Her son came with her and eventually they moved to the Viking, ND area to homestead and build the family farms.

As a young girl she worked as a satter girl who spent her summers up on the mountains taking care of the cattle on summer pasture.

Sidsil's birth date of 1819 is the earliest of any recorded date in the Viking Cemetery.
