The funeral for Stanton Ambers, 74, of rural Maddock was held 19 Sep 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at Viking Lutheran Church of rural Maddock. Burial was in the church cemetery in block 3 plot 74. He died on 13 Sep 2000 at UniMed Medical Center in Minot. The Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden was in charge of arrangements. Stanton Ambers was born on 11 Jul 1926 on his parents farm north of Hamberg to Lewis and Olga Simonson Ambers. He grew up there and attended schools in the Hamberg and Maddock areas. On 13 Dec 1944 he entered the US Army and served in the Armored Tank Division during WWII. Following his discharge in October of 1945 he spent a year in Vancouver, WA where he was employed at the Boise Cascade paper mill. He returned to North Dakota and farmed near Maddock. On 30 Nov 1954 he married Doris Berglund at Sheyenne. The couple farmed and ranched south of Maddock until ill health forced his retirement in 1982. He was a lifelong member of Viking Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Post 123 of Maddock and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife; two sisters, Clarice Fossen of Vancouver, WA and Lila Alfstad of Sheyenne; and three brothers, Judal and Alvern Ambers of Vancouver, WA and Kenneth Ambers of Monmouth, OR. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Michael in 1957; his parents; two sisters, Vionne and Alvina; and three brothers, Lester, Lawrence and an infant boy named Roy.
