He married Eva Conde 12-16-1797, had 11 children and lived 76 years. He is the son of Revolutionary war veteran Capt. John Nicholas Van Patten/Petten and his wife, Nelly [Neektje(Eleanor)]Vedder Van Patten. In the Hindmarsh "Van Petten" book of 1996 it shows his birth as 9/3/1775 and baptism as 8/11/1776 in West Glenville and death in 1851 in Glenville. He owned a saw mill on the Conde Creek where it crosses Sacandaga Road. He was the architect and builder of the west Glenville First Reformed Church in 1812 for $2500.
