Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pike, wife of Mr. George Pike, died suddenly at her home near Meadow Creek Thursday morning, July 21, from acute myocarditis and had been in her usual health up to a few months before the fatal attack. Funeral services and interment were conducted Friday morning, July 22, in the Stubbs Cemetery near Irene this county. Mary was the daughter of Wayne H. and Mary Lucy Pike Caffee and was married to Mr. Pike April 14, 1898, and ten children were born to their union, eight of whom survive, as follows: Mrs. Lucy Antle, Mrs. Mae Antle, Elijah Shelby, Arthur, Omer, Ellen and Charles Pike, two children having died in infancy. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. J. H. Pike, of this county, Mrs. Ellen Bryant, Marseilles, Ill., and one brother, Lewis Coffey, of Ella, Ky. The deceased had embraced the Christian religion a number of years ago, and united with the Souls Chapel Methodist Church, of which she remained a faithful member until her death. She was widely known and her untimely death is greatly mourned by a large circle of friends in the county.
