Marshall Hollingsworth

Funeral services for Marshall Hollingsworth, 55, Newton, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, from the Webb Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Pine Bluff Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Arnold Robinson, the Rev. Howard Benson and the Rev. Len Chesney officiated.

Hollingsworth, who died Saturday, Nov. 8, at Riley's Hospital in Meridian, was a heavy equipment operator with the county for the past 20 years, a member of the Pine Bluff Baptist Church and a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth Puckett Hollingsworth; three daughters, Mrs. Marsha Hedrick, Mrs. Lee Ann Scoggin and Mrs. Betty Joyce Purvis, all of Newton; two sons, Raymond Hollingsworth, Newton, and Kenneth Hollingsworth, Philadelphia; his father, J. O. Hollingsworth, Newton: two sisters; Mrs. Mary Frances Jones, Newton, and Mrs. Ola Mae Amis, Decatur; one brother, Ed Hollingsworth, Newton; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Harmon Jones, Durwood Pinson, Albert Smith, Henry Mac Smith, Spurgeon Jones and W. E. Everett.

Webb Funeral home of Newton was in charge.

Meador, Hollingsworth to wed April 24

Davey and Anita Meador of Decatur, Mississippi, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Mandi to Clay Hollingsworth of Newton, Mississippi. Clay is the son of Raymond and Pat Hollingsworth of Newton, Mississippi.

The wedding will be Saturday, April 24, 1999, at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Bluff Baptist Church, Newton, Mississippi.

Mandi is a 1996 graduate of Newton County High School and a 1998 graduate of Meridian Community College.

Mandi is a Certified Respiratory Therapist and is employed at Newton Regional Hospital, Newton, Mississippi.

Clay is a 1994 graduate of Newton County Academy and a 1998 graduate of Meridian Community College.

Clay is a Certified Respiratory Therapist and is employed at Rush Hospital, Meridian, Mississippi.

Mandi is the paternal granddaughter of Stella Meador and the late David R. Meador of Decatur, Mississippi, and the maternal granddaughter of Laura Savell and the late Albert Savell of Conehatta, Mississippi.

Clay is the maternal grandson of Sam and Ruby Chaney of Decatur, Mississippi, and the paternal grandson of the late Marshall and Edna Ruth Hollingsworth of Newton, Mississippi.

Family and friends are invited to attend through the media of the press.

Couple Assumes Wedding Vows At Pine Bluff

Miss Betty Joyce Hollingsworth and R. T. Purvis Jr. assumed wedding vows at Pine Bluff Church recently. The announcement is made by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Hollingsworth of Newton. Her grandparerts are O'Berian Hollingsworth and the late Mrs. Hollingsworth and the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pucket of Decatur.

Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Purvis of Newton. He is the grandson of Mrs. Dan McDonald and the late Mr. McDonald of Terry and the late Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Purvis of Florence.

The bride's pastor, the Rev. Lin Chesney, officiated at the double ring ceremony in the presence of the couple's families.

The Bride

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a street length dress of white knit. Her corsage was a purple orchid tied with pink ribbon. Mrs. Charles Scoggin attended her sister as matron of honor. Her dress was of pink knit with a corsage of white carnations.

Mrs. Purvis is a graduate of Decatur Attendance Center and East Central Junior College at Decatur and she attended the University of Southern Mississippi. She is employed by the Newton County tax assessor.

Danny Ray Purvis served his brother as best man. Mr. Purvis is a graduate of Newton High School and East Central Junior College and attended Mississippi State and the University of Southern Mississippi. He is employed by The Newton Co.

Reception

The reception was held in the home of the bride's parents. The bride's table was covered with white lace and held the three-tiered wedding cake. The cake was decorated with orange flowers and was topped with a miniature bridal couple. The cake and orange fruit punch were served by Mrs. Ed Hedrick, sister of the bride, and Mrs. Raymond Hollingsworth, her sister-in-law.

Mrs. Dan McDonald and Mrs. Dot Schwartz of Terry were out-of-town guests.

The couple will live in Newton.

Newton Couple Is Wed On March 4 At Pine Bluff

Miss Lee Ann Hollingsworth and Second Lt. Charles Donald Scoggin exchanged marriage vows Saturday, March 4 at 4 p.m. in Pine Bluff Baptist Church. The announcement is made by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Hollingsworth of Newton. Lieutenant Scoggin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Donald Scoggin, also of Newton.

The Rev. Lynn Chesney, pastor, performed the double ring ceremony.

For her wedding the bride chose a street-length white ensemble with purple-throated orchid corsage.

Miss Betty Hollingsworth attended her sister as maid of honor. Her dress was pink, with a corsage of white carnations.

Marshall Hollingsworth served as best man.

Members of the immediate families attended the wedding.

Immediately following the ceremony the couple left for the Little Rock, Ark., Air Base, where Lieutenant Scoggin will be stationed for the next few months.

The new Mrs. Scoggin is the granddaughter of O'berion Hollingsworth and the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Puckett of Decatur. She is an honor graduate of Decatur Attendance Center and East Central Junior College, Decatur, and has been employed in the office of the Newton County tax assessor.

Lieutenant Scoggin is the grandson of Mrs. Coglan and the late Mr. Coglan of Ellisville and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bill Scoggin of Decatur. He is a graduate of Decatur Attendance Center, East Central Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he majored in industrial technology and was on the Dean's List. He is a member of the Air National Guard and has been in officers' flight training at Webb Air Force Base, Big Springs, Tex., for 11 months.
