B-24H-30-FO Liberator #42-95379, nicknamed "Extra Joker" on mission out of Foggia, Italy to bomb the airdrome at Markersdorf, Austria, was shot up by a German Fw-190A-8 and caught on fire then exploded near Türnitz, Austria, killing the 10-man crew. Missing Air Crew Report № 7956.

Rites for S. Sgt. Peter Breda, 24, grandson of Mrs. Grace Breda, 2201 W. Elm-st, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in National cemetery, St. Louis.

Sgt. Breda, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Breda, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Lima, was killed Aug. 23, 1944, while on a bombing mission over Austria.

He was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, June 16, 1920, and became of resident of this country shortly after. He was employed at the Westinghouse Electric Corp. plant here before entering service Feb. 11, 1943. He received training at Keesler field, Miss., Laredo, Tex. and Tucson, Ariz. He was stationed with the 15th Air Force in Italy when his plane was lost.

In addition to his parents and grandmother, he is survived by three brothers, Fred, Leo Jr., and John, and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Leasurer and Mary, all at home.
