"Anthony A. Oakes, 76, Kingman, died at 4:55 p.m. December 10, 1994 at United Samaritans Medical Center, Logan Campus, Danville, Illinois. He was born August 6, 1918, at Olney, Illinois, the son of Aloysius J. and Martha M. Spitz Oakes. He married Cecil L. Crossman, June 29, 1940 at Chicago, Illinois. She survives.

He retired in 1982 after working 30 years for Harrison Steel Casting Company, Attica. After retirement he worked for Gene's Farm Supply, Kingman. He attended Kingman Community Church. He was a former member of Kingman Lions Club and the K of C of Danville, Illinois. He enjoyed farming, gardening, playing his guitar and raising flowers.

Surviving, besides his wife, are: a son, Harold Gene (Sherry) Oakes, Veedersburg; a daughter, Dana B. (Gerald) Harvey, Wallace; three grandchildren, Mike Harvey, Wallace, Mark Harvey, Terre Haute, Wanda S. Nelson, Las Vegas, Nevada; five great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Scheurich, Attica, Frances Bleichner, Florida, Cathryn Walker, Villa Grove, Illinois; and a brother, Lawrence (Babe) Oakes, Urbana, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Kingman Community Church, Kingman, with the Rev. Glenn Ray, Sr. and Pastor Kenneth Majors officiating. Visitation will be at the church after 9:30 a.m. today (Tuesday) until hour of service. Burial will be in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery, Kingman.
