Carrie N. Smith
Carrie Nelson Smith, 82 of 530 W. Sublette, died Tuesday afternoon in a local rest home following an illness.
She was born February 12, 1893 at Cleveland, Idaho, the daughter of Neils H. and Bodell Hansen Nelson. On February 11, 1914, she married Arthur T. Smith in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They made their home in Cleveland until 1940 when they came to Pocatello.
Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as president of the Relief Society and MIA. She had also been an organist, a Relief Society visiting teacher, and a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed flowers, handwork, and ceramics.
Survivors include her husband of Pocatello; six sons, Harold R. of POcatello, Wallace N. of Garden Grove, Calif., Wayne L. of Phoenix, Ariz., Merrill N. of San Carlos, Calif., Jack H. of Provo, Utah, and Gene W. of Pocatello; a daughter, Norma Dean Justus of Pinale, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Nelson of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Fred (Mary) Anderson of Cleveland, Idaho; and 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Don Arthur, was killed during World War II.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Pocatello LDS 10th Ward Chapel at 1245 N. Arthur, with Bishop Donald England officiating. Burial will be in Mountainview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Manning Funeral Chapel.
