Mayberry S. Skidmore, the son of John Skidmore and Lucy Jane McEnder, married 1st Elizabeth Jane Evans (born 11 March 1825, died 12 February 1845) on 17 February 1844 in Johnson County, Indiana. He married 2nd Naoma Stewart, daughter of James Stewart and Elizabeth Barnes, on 28 Jan 1847 in Johnson Co., Indiana. They moved in 1863 to Jackson Township, Lucas County, Iowa, where his brother William had settled earlier. Mayberry and Naoma had nine children: John Wesley, Louisa, Elizabeth Jane, America, Matilda Ann, Amanda Melvina, Sarah Rebecca, William Sanford, and Mary Ellen Skidmore. All the children were born in Indiana, except Mary Ellen, who was born in Lucas Co., Iowa.
