David Earl Fisher, loving husband and father, died at the age of 74, Monday July 11, 2005, in the Portneuf Medical Center, in Pocatello, Idaho. Dave and Wilma Fisher have lived at 1419 E. Elm in Pocatello, Idaho for the past 11 years, since moving from Cowley, Wyoming, where they had lived since 1958.

For most of his life, Dave was very industrious, designing and building his own creations from several hovercraft to a houseboat in his garage in Cowley, and conquering Wyoming's long cold winters by building his own greenhouse to extend the growing season and produce tomatoes nearly year round. He was also very active in his church, serving as a counselor in the Cowley Ward Bishopric, as ward clerk, and in a number of other callings as well.

Dave was born June 14, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the fourth of five children belonging to Walter George and Mary Lee Fisher.

Dave married Wilma Baird, of Cowley on March 1, 1954, in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They had met at church in Tacoma, Wash., while Dave was stationed in the Army there at Fort Lewis, and Wilma was visiting her sister who lived in Tacoma. Dave and Wilma made their home in Cowley, where the two raised their seven children, and where Dave worked as a machinist, primarily for the Lovell Clay factory, and then the Great Western and later Western Sugar factory, also in Lovell.

It was at work for Western Sugar that Dave was injured, October 1, 1993, when a molasses pipeline struck him after extreme pressure that was built up in the pipeline was released. The injuries left Dave paralyzed from the chest down, and in a wheelchair. After the injury, Dave and Wilma moved to Pocatello, Idaho, to be nearer to a hospital that could provide the care he needed, and to be nearer to their children.

Dave was admitted to the Protneuf Medical Center, June 22, 2005, after inhaling smoke from a fire at his home. Unfortunately, due to the paralysis of his chest and lungs, Dave was unable to expel the smoke from his lungs, and he contracted the pneumonia that lead to his death.

Dave is survived by his wife, Wilma; seven children: Cindy and Byrne Hopkin of Bountiful, Utah, Marianne and Rodney Flahaut of Pocatello, Idaho, Gail and Russell Graves of Murray, Utah, Patti and Bret Dover of Pocatello, Idaho, Gilbert and Heidi Fisher of Fresno, California. Scott and Lori Fisher of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Amy and Lance Schwope of Pocatello, Idaho; 33 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his older brother, Richard (LeRoyce) Fisher and younger sister, Caroline (Bob) Thomson, both of Utah.

Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Fisher; a sister, Patricia Fisher; and a brother, Byron Fisher.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 18, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Walnut building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 940 North Walnut, on the Corner of Jefferson and Walnut in Pocatello, Idaho. Interment is at the Restlawn Cemetery in Pocatello. There was a viewing Sunday evening at Henderson-Cornelison Funeral Home located at 431 North 15th Avenue in Pocatello.
