Ned W. Belt, Sr., Designer, Master Detailer, Mentor and Inventor recently passed away at his home surrounded by his family. He went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior. The family celebrated his 85th anniversary of his blessed earthly birth of September 3, 1922. They now will celebrate his Heavenly birth of September 6, 2007. He was a man of God, a man that loved his country and a man that loved his family. He was a loving husband, daddy and pawpaw. He was a communicant of St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Maryville Tennessee. Having resided in Maryville, Chattanooga and Cleveland TN., he was always a very involved and active member of the church he attended. He has served as Youth Director, Sunday School Teacher, and a leader at various Youth Church Camps. On April 17, 2005, in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the building in which the membership of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Maryville now worship, he was presented with a plaque and a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his dedication in the architectural design and assistance in the construction of the building. A portion of the certificate states the following: "Even though the structure is now approximately 50 years old it is still a modern design by today's standards that is a testament to your foresight and professionalism. We thank you for your contribution." A photograph of the church building is on exhibit in the main foyer of the Blount County Court House. He graduated from Maryville High School with the class of 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked as a Millwright at Alcoa for a short while prior to pursuing his lifelong distinguished career in the Architectural profession. He is preceded in death by parents, Charles L. and Iva Jane Abbott Belt of Maryville and Bill Luke Belt of Jacksonville FL. He is survived by his beloved, loving wife "SWEET" of 65 years, Dorothy Jean Justice (Dot) Belt; sons, Harold J. Belt and Charley L. Belt both of Knoxville, Ned W. (Chuck) Belt Jr. of Blaine TN; daughter, Martha Nan Nunley of Soddy Daisy TN; sisters, Loa Marie Kendrick of Maryville and Marlene Abbott of London, KY; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate his life will be held Sunday, September 16, 2007 at 2 p.m. ET at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 314 W. Broadway, Maryville, TN, with Rev. Bob Beasley officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Refreshments will be served.
