Melvin Martin Bowman, 90, of Dryden Road, in Sadieville, Kentuckky, died Thursday October 26, 2006, at his residence. He was born September 22, 1916, a son of the late Colie and Effie Hutchison Bowman. Melvin was a devoted husband and most caring and loving daddy and papaw. He was a retired farmer.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Sara Frances Jenkins Bowman; a son, Harold Wayne Bowman; a daughter, Betty Bowman Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Swinford Bowman; a grandson, Paul Douglas Bowman; four sisters; and a brother. Survivors include: a daughter, Kathie Bowman (Jim) Williams, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a son, Hillis Ray Bowman, of Irvin; two granddaughters, Jennifer Michelle Ledford and Christina (Bobby) Grindstaff, both of Cynthiana; four grandsons, Joseph Alan Bedford, of Carlisle, Harold Wayne Bowman, Jr., Anthony Todd Bowman, David Lee Bowman and Kevin Bradley Bowman, all of Cynthiana; brothers Perry (Mildred) Bowman, of Lexington, and Frank "Bo" (Mary Ann) Bowman, of San Bernadino, California; two sisters, Rhoda Cole, of Hamilton, Ohio, and Margaret King Bodden, of Crystal River, Florida; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 30, at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home, officiated by Bro. Larry Lee Jones. Burial will follow the service in Battle Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Harold Wayne Bowman, Jr., David Lee Bowman, Anthony Todd Bowman, Kevin Bradley Bowman, Joseph Alan Bedford, Justin Paul Bowman and Jim C. Williams. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
