Second of eleven children born to Stephen L. German and Anna Bender. Ida grew up on the family farm west of Humphrey, NE and received her education in St. Francis Parish School there. Mother of 7 children; 4 girls and 3 boys. Married Nicholas Joseph Van Dyke on January 8, 1913 in St. Francis Church, Humphrey, NE. They farmed near Humphrey after their marriage, but moved to Sidney, NE in March, 1918 where they raised cattle and wheat. They sold out in 1920, moved to Burlington, CO where they raised cattle, wheat, and turkeys on their farm. In 1936, they moved to Loveland, CO, and in 1940 moved again to Denver, where Ida died in 1951. She was buried from Presentation Church in Denver and laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, CO.

Catherine Orange, Eleanor Gertrude Smith, and Jerome Gerald Van Dyke.
