REED
Harry Beatty Reed, son of David C. and Lillian Sandham Reed, was born on a farm near Anita, Iowa, August 18, 1911 and departed this life July 16, 1983, at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital at the age of 71. His early life was spent in and around Anita and in 1931 he graduated from Anita High School.
On October 16, 1937, he was united in marriage to Hazel Brown in Guthrie Center, Iowa, and for five years they lived near Anita and then moved to a farm near Atlantic, Iowa. Five children were born to this union.
In 1947, they moved to a farm south of Russell, Iowa. After farming for 12 years, he then was employed by Lucas County Road Dept., becoming a sign foreman and retiring in 1976.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond; one sister, Jennie, who died in infancy; two half-brothers, Les and Tom; five half-sisters, Gretchen Ellsworth, Zeda Limbaugh, Iva Hadley, Charlotte Cooper and Marjorie Aikens.
He leaves his wife, Hazel; three sons, David, Harry L., and wife Jackie of Russell, Merrill and wife Vicki of Othol, Idaho; two daughters, Frankie Avitt and husband Gordon, Merry Morrison and husband Bruce, both of Russell; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
He also leaves four half-sisters, Gladys Reeves of Des Moines, Iowa, Nellie Schwaderer of Arizona, Hazel Jones of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Floss Hunter of Mitchell, South Dakota; one half-brother, Jake Reed of Hemet, Calif.; several neices, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He loved the out-of-doors and his family. He will be deeply missed.We will always carry with us memories of him and pass them on to our children who will never get a chance to share his love.
Services were held Wednesday, July 20 at the Fielding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wauneita McConnell officiating. Interment was in the Russell Cemetery.
