David's obituary was kindly shared by Genesis Funeral Home:

"SHELBY - Master Sgt. David Wood Cathey USA retired, joined his earthly father, Hamlin Cathey and his Heavenly Father God, on Thursday, June 11, 2009.

He was blessed to be raised in a Christian home and over the past few months he had moved into a new and glorious personal relationship with his Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. He would want anyone that knew him and did not know the Lord to take this time to do just that. David was a naval corpsman attached to the fleet Marine force during the Vietnam War. He fought many battles for our country such as the TET Offenses where he received two Purple Hearts. He also received awards such as Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon (Vietnam), Navy Unit commendation and meritorious unit Citation. These are only a few of his numerous awards and medals for his 20 years of military service.

He was also the organizing adjuntant and member of the American Legion 527 of Fallston. He was a lifetime member of Amvets of Shelby. Most of all he was the bravest, most generous kind hearted person anyone could know.

He is survived by two loving daughters, Andrea and Jennifer Cathey; mother, Dorothy Cathey; sister, Carol Roberts; and brother, Tim Cathey.

For those of you who would like to be a part of his remembrance, please join us at on Saturday, June 20, 4 p.m., at the Fallston War Memorial.

Genesis Funeral Service is serving the family."

David was a member of the 1966 graduating class of Burns at Fallston High School. It is my honor to share His memorial with the findagrave community. - Judy
