Funeral services for Jessie F. “Bunk” Nansel, 88, were held on Monday, February 18, 1974 at the United Methodist Church in Arnold, Nebraska… Pallbearers were Danny and Kent DeLosh, Bill McCartney, Craig Meads, Cliff Meads, and Joe, Larry and Lane Nansel. Interment was made in the cemetery at Arnold, Custer County. Jessie Franklin Nansel was born on March 16, 1885 in Sand Valley, west of Callaway, Custer County, Nebraska to Godfrey Nansel and Sarah McCreary Nansel, and he passed away at the Good Samaritan Home in Callaway on Friday February 15, 1974, at the advanced age of 88 years, 10 months and 30 days. He was united in marriage to Marguerite McFate on October 20 [date may be incorrect], 1906. Nine children were born to this union: Veneta Meads now of Merna, Nebraska, Helen Jarmin now of Ainsworth, Nebraska, Cecil McCartney now of Omaha, Nebraska; Charles Nansel now of Callaway; Archie Nansel who passed away in 1973; Jane Goodwin now of Denver, Colorado; Jessie Franklin Nansel Jr. who passed away in 1920; Floyd Nansel now of North Platte, Nebraska, and Betty DeLosh of Broken Bow, Nebraska. He became both father and mother to his children, when his wife passed away in February of 1924. He lived his entire life in the Callaway and Arnold communities. He moved to his farm south of Arnold in 1916, and lived there until failing health forced his retirement. For the past 2 years, he had been a resident of Good Samaritan Home in Callaway. Survivors besides his 5 daughters and 2 sons include 19 grandchildren, 34 great and 1 great-great grandchild, one sister, Cecil now Mrs. Mynor Smith of Arnold, one brother, Wray Nansel of Lomita, California, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
