Elmer was the son of George A and Martha "Mattie" (Richardson) Sanders and grew up in Henry Co. MO along with 10 brothers and sisters. Around 1920 he moved to Plymouth Co.,Iowa and in 1922 he married Lillian Krause and they had two children:

Marjorie Sanders b. 1922 IA d. 1936 NE - Car accident
Ray M Sanders b. 1924 IA d. 1958 SD - Hit by car

Sometime after Marjorie died they moved to Oakland, CA. He and Lillian divorced in the early 1950's and she moved back to the Sioux City, IA area and he remained in Oakland. According to his death certificate he had his own repair shop for appliances.

Possible that Elmer is one of the unknown entries at this cemetery or his grave may be unmarked.

Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Hayward, CA - transcribed from unascribed papers at H.A.H.S. This was also the burial place of paupers from Alameda County hospitals from 1932 to 1973. Further records may be available from St. Leander's Church, 474 W. Estudillo Avenue, San Leandro.
