On October 18th, 1988 Michael Buczek, a young police officer in the 34th Precinct in Washington Heights was killed in the line of duty.He was shot by drug dealers. He was survived by his wife, his father Ted, his mother Josephine, his sister Mary Jo and his brother Walter. His mother Josephine has passed away. Michael's father Ted along with other family members set up a foundation called The Buczek Foundation. The family has kept up on with police matters and have done wonders for various groups including many in Washington Heights and another group that I am involved in, The Rockland County Shields. Now Ted has been nominated for volunteer of the year. It is a contest which will require voting. The winner will be recognized on the TV Show The View in late October.
