LUGOFF — Funeral service for Annette Hodge Hurst, 71, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Sumter.

The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Arthritis Foundation or St. John's United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Hurst died Wednesday, February 14, 2007. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Patrick Harmon and Camilla Stone Hodge.

She received nursing training from Toumey Hospital and received her RN in 1956. She worked as a nurse for DuPont and Kershaw County Medical Center and retired from South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Home Health.

Mrs. Hurst was a member of St. John United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Lee Fellowship Sunday School Class and Julia Jones Circle Group. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, working in her church, traveling and sewing.

Surviving are her husband of 14 years, Charles Henry Hurst; daughter, Sheryl Cantey-Bruce and her husband, Gail Bruce of Augusta, Ga.; son, Joseph B. "Joe" Cantey Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Lugoff; stepchildren, Beth Bales of Sumter, Ruth Deason of Monroe, and Maria Fink of Harrisburg; brothers, Lynwood Harmon Hodge of Sumter, and Ollie Hodge of Sumter; sisters, Sarah Moore of Hurst, Texas, and Zeda Hellthalu; grandchildren, Brice Cantey III, Amanda Davis, Mark Bruce, Reid Bruce, Kristi Humphries, and Ashley Pessolano; great-grandchildren, Linlee Davis, Owen Humphries, and Gavin Humphries; and her beloved granddog, Beauregard.

She was predeceased by a brother, Leslie "Dickie" Hodge.
