At his residence in New Market, York county (sic), on Monday last, JACOB KIRK, Esq., aged 68 years. He was a very estimable citizen, and stood high in the confidence of his neighbors and all who knew him.

JACOB KIRK, Esq., a well known and highly esteemed citizen of this county, died at his residence in Fairview township on Tuesday last, at an advanced age. Mr. Kirk has filled various positions of public trust - Justice of the Peace, Member of the Legislature, Superintendent of Common Schools - in all of which he discharged his duties faithfully and creditably.

First Postmaster of Lewisberry, appointed 29 Nov 1815
Jacob Kirk served in the Legislature in 1836 with Thaddeus Stevens and was one of the brave men who voted against the resolution to investigate the Masonic order. He was also one of the first directors of the Northern Central railway and the first county superintendent of schools in York county.
