Mr. Kirk has filled various positions of public trust - Justice of the Peace, Member of the Legislature, Superintendent of Common Schools - in all of which he discharged his duties faithfully and creditably.

Jacob Kirk served in the Legislature in 1836 with Thaddeus Stevens and was one of the brave men who voted against the resolution to investigate the Masonic order. He was also one of the first directors of the Northern Central railway and the first county superintendent of schools in York county.
