Not to be confused with the other Virginia Rev War David Dalton who died in Pittsylvania County, VA, in 1802.

10-26-23 thanks to Dalton researcher James 49477057 for info:

I believe Hannah is not this David's wife. This David's 1800 census appears to become Elizabeth Dalton's in 1810. So it appears this David's wife at death may have been Elizabeth rather than Hannah. The current death date for Hannah is 1770, so he may have had a wife by the name of Hannah. If so, I do not believe she was a Goad/Goode. This David never passed through Pittsylvania County according to his son's Revolutionary War pension applications (Thomas W6983 http://revwarapps.org/w6983.pdf ; and John S1755 http://revwarapps.org/s1755.pdf). Both applications say they were born in Albemarle County VA and traveled to Rutherford County (John mentioning a stop in Burke County NC). The Goads never passed through Albemarle, going from the Rappahannock basin directly to Southside VA. Pittsylvania David did marry a Hannah, but she died in 1804. His Hannah is rumored to be a Goad, but there is reason to doubt that. I will add that John's pension application cited above says his uncle is William Grant, which may suggest this David's wife was Elizabeth Grant.

Also, this David's parents MAY not be Timothy and Elizabeth. We have Y-DNA for many of the Rutherford Daltons which shows they are not closely related to the Pittsylvania Daltons. We are not certain we have Y-DNA from Timothy (d. 1767) and Elizabeth of Louisa County, but if we do they are not closely related to Rutherford David.

The children linked appear correct with the exception of Rachel (Dalton) Dyer who belongs to Pittsylvania David.

For reference, below is info on the other David Dalton of Pittsylvania County, VA, from the research of James (49477057) and Melanie:

Neither the exact date or place of birth of David Dalton Sr is known. His date of birth here is based on the earliest recorded fact found that could be used to determine age according to Virginia law. He would have been of age in 1746 when he was sued for debt in Brunswick County, VA. (Brunswick Co VA COB 3:63). DNA tests of descendants indicate he was Irish.

By 1776, he is referenced in John Smith's Last Will & Testament as living on land across from Owen Atkinson (Pittsylvania County, VA, Will Book). The 1774 Atkinson survey of 80 acres in the watershed of Bearskin Creek would today be south of Route 799 and off to the West. The exact boundaries are unknown.

David Dalton Sr. signed the Oath of Allegiance on Captain Daniel Hankins' list in Pittsylvania County, VA, in 1777.

Little is known about the married life of David Dalton Sr., except that he was married to Hannah (family unknown). From 1797 through 1801, Camden Parish Vestry provided support for David and Hannah. From 1802 through 1804 support was provided for Hannah only; therefore, we can presume David died by 1802 and Hannah died by 1804.

David Dalton Sr's Children:
~~ BENJAMIN, born c.1751. On tithe with David paying tithe 1767. Witnesses deed in Bedford 1768. Disappears.
~~ JAMES, born c.1757. On tithe list as son of David 1773. Signed Oath of Allegiance 1777. May lease first land 1778. Married AGNES DYER 1782. Moved to Bearskin Creek 1786. Probably died 1802 (based on tax lists and a James Dalton listed as deceased in COB 10:310).
~~ RACHEL, born 1759. Married GEORGE DYER 1775. Moved to Henry County, VA. Died Henry County, VA, 1862.
~~ SARAH, born c.1760. Married Daniel McKenzie prior to 1787. Moved to Henry County, VA, where her husband died. Moved to Pulaski County, KY, with her children and the Bobbitt family.
~~ NANCY, born c.1760. Married Nathan Dyer 1788. [NOTE: Not proven as a child of David Dalton, Sr.]
