She was the sister of Col A W Anthony. She married Robert Hughes and they had 12 children.

Melissa was the daughter of Lewis Corder and Nancy Jane Kirby Anthony. She
married Robert Hughes on July 24, 1845 in Morgan Co, MO. From this union were
born twelve children: C.L., Mrs N. E. Smiley, Mrs. Mattie Todd, Mrs Sallie Long,
O. W. Hughes, Mrs. Nettie Kenanbly, Mrs J. E. Nininger and Thomas of Idaho. Four
