William Hicks Sr. was the son of Charley and Elizabeth Carpenter Hicks. He was the husband of Eliza Jane Napier Hicks. He worked in the coal mine and as a farmer tending small creekside bottoms with a mule and raising large gardens to feed his large family. He was a well respected man in the community.
