Hester Ann Mason was born 8 August 1788 in Salem County, New Jersey, to Joseph Mason and Hepzibah (Amett) Mason, both of Gloucester, New Jersey.

At some point, the family emigrated to Clermont county, Ohio. Hester's father Joseph Mason died there in 1833 aged 78. Hester's mother Hepzibah Amett Mason died in Batavia, Clermont county, Ohio in 1850 at age 90.

Hester Ann Mason wed John A. Winner in 1809, in Clermont county, Ohio. She was 21; he was 23.

The 1850 census shows John A. and Hester A. Winner at ages 64 and 62 living in Township 4 South 4 West, Pike county, Illinois. It is known the family was in Pike county by at least 1840, however.

John and Hester Winner lived and farmed near Barry, Pike county, Illinois throughout their married lives, and had several children: Benjamin (1806 - 1850), Samuel George (1810 - 1882), William S. (1814 - ?), John Leopold (1816 - 1887), Thomas (1817 - 1897), Israel (1820 - ?), John A. (1821 - 1822), and Joshua (1823 - ?)

Hester Ann Mason, pioneer of the Midwest and mother to generations, died 30 March 1860 from typhoid. She was 71.

Hester Ann Mason Winner is buried in the Winner family cemetery near Barry, Pike county, Illinois.
