Gloria Allen Cherkala, 90, passed away at her residence on October 3, 2009.
Born December 26, 1918, in Bloomington, IN, she was the daughter of William Walter and Glenna Lee (Prouty) Allen.
She was the fourth generation of the Allen family in Bloomington.
Having attended Bloomington High School for three years, she graduated from Principia Upper School, St. Louis, MO, in 1936. She attended Indiana University.
She was a Life Member of I.U. Alumni Association, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Tri Kappa, American Legion Auxiliary and the Christian Science Church.
She and her husband, Jon Cherkala, were co-owners (1977-1994) of the East Third Street Allen Funeral Home. She was also Secretary-Treasurer. The Allen Funeral Home was founded by her father, Walter Allen, in 1917.
She is survived by her husband, Jon Cherkala, and son, Michael Allen Cherkala, and daughter-in-law, Dana Cherkala.
The funeral service and interment will be private.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 6, from 4-8 p.m. at The Funeral Chapel of Powell, Deckard and Costin, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington.
