Alexander "Baboiul" York, 57, died Sunday, September 27, 2009 at his residence.
Alexander was born in Cimpina Prahova, Romania on October 21, 1951. He moved to the United States in 1981 where he has lived in many different places including Houston and New York before settling in the Hinesville area in 1999. In 2005, he retired from a long career in the United States Army, which included service in the Gulf War, Kosovo and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, and the Kosovo Campaign Medal. Alexander was a great husband and father who showed great love for his family and friends. He was a selfless man who would give all he had to help a friend in need.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-three years, Catrinel Bogdanovici of Allenhurst and one son Alexandru R. Bocioaca of Enterprise, AL. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military honors
