MEMPHIS - Edwin Hutcherson, 89, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church
with the Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Fairview
Cemetery by Spicer Funeral Home of Memphis and Myers-Long Funeral Home
of Turkey.

Mr. Hutcherson was born in Salisbury. After graduating from Memphis
High School, he attended Wichita Falls Junior College and Texas Tech
University. He played football at both colleges.

He married Mildred Beckum in 1932 at Sayre, Okla. She died July 20. He
also was preceded in death by a son, Bob Hutcherson, in 1981.

Mr. Hutcherson was a longtime farmer. He was a county commissioner for
24 years before retiring in 1977. He also was gin manager of the
Paymaster Gin for several years.

He was a member of the Methodist church and served on the board of
stewards. He also served on the board of the REA and on the Memphis
School Board for many years.

Mr. Hutcherson was a Mason and a member and president of the Memphis
Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He served as president of
the Hall County Society of Crippled Children and Adults and served
with the Easter Seal Foundation when the society was affiliated with
Easter Seal Inc.

He was instrumental in the establishment of Hall County Hospital. He
also helped with senior citizen housing.

Survivors include a daughter, Lera Kate Powell of Plano; five
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
