Catherine was the daughter of Daniel & Elizabeth (Rietz) Wagner. She immigrated from Canada in 1873, and was naturalized in 1895.

She met John McCleery in Ann Arbor while she was a seamstress and a German tutor. They were married in 1878, and eventually moved to the Jackson area.

Her children were:

She was a saleslady after John's death.

Mrs. Catherine McCleery passed away at East Side Hospital Tuesday at 1:05 am, age 76 years.
Surviving are 2 sons and 4 daughteres, George L. (Ethel)of Jackson, Clarence (Ruth) of Flint, Mrs. George (Cora) Bones, Mrs. Fred (Minnie) Jefferson, Mrs. Charles (Esther) Southwell and Mrs. Harold (Vera) Albright all of Jackson. Three sisters and 1 brother, grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. McCleery was at Bailey Home where funeral services were held Thursday at 2 pm.
Catherine (Katie) died of a cerebral hemmorhage.
