While in grade school she played a Guard in basketball. She met her husband Harry A. Terpstra,, an only child and they married 7 November 1930 and to this union 5 children were born.
He drove a truck while she worked as a waitress.
Nellie passed away in Knoxville, Iowa and she leaves her sister and a brother.
She was preceded in death by other family members.
