Maggie was born in Black Lick Twp., Indiana Co., PA, the daughter of Benjamin Irwin and Mary A. Marshall. She married "Fillmore" Millard Fillmore Smathers in 1875.
Fillmore and Maggie were the parents of six children:
1. "Blaine" Charles Blaine Smathers
2. "Blanche" Leiala Blanche (Smathers) Johnson
3. Ida Linda (Smathers) Lettie
4. Mary Ann Smathers
5. John Irwin Smathers
6. an unnamed infant son
