Mr. Birschbach was born on a farm in Forest Township, Fond du Lac County, April 2, 1873, the son of Anton and Gertrude Fuhrman Birschbach. As a young child, his family moved to Taycheedah where he farmed for 48 years. On May 30, 1899 he married Margaret Schmitz of Malone, Wis.
Eleven children were born to them, nine of whom survive. Two boys died in infancy. Living are Francis Woodhall; Valentine, Sheboygan Falls; Richard, Milwaukee; Sylvester, Johnsburg; Mrs. Herbert J. Wagner (Louise) St. Nazianz; Ambrose, Chilton; and Walter, Christian, and Leo, Mt. Calvary. Also surviving are three brothers, John A., St. Peter; Nick, Fond du Lac; William, Mt. Calvary, two sisters, Anna, Mt Calvary; and Mrs. Kathryn Rauldauf, North Fond du Lac. There are 48 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Mr. Birschbach was a member of Holy Cross Parish throughout his life, where he was a member of the Holy Name and the St. Anthony Societies. He was precedent of Mt. Calvary Lumber Co. for 28 years, school clerk for 28 years and held offices in the parish church.
Funeral services will be held from Holy Cross Church, Mt. Calvary. Father Ephram Hertel will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
