Elvin Edwin Van Wyk, son of Will D. and Nellie Bruxvoort Van Wyk, was born August 17, 1930 near Sully, Iowa. He passed away at his shop north of Pella on Thursday evening, September 10, 2009, at the age of seventy-nine.

Elvin attended the Brown School near Sully and graduated with his eighth grade class.

On September 27, 1950, he was united in marriage with Patricia Mae Van Arkel. Elvin and Patricia first lived on a dairy farm near Peoria and in 1959 they moved to a farm north of Pella. To this union five children were born: Linda, Elaine, Edwin, Ervin and Evonn.

Elvin and Patricia moved to Pella in 1994. Patricia passed away in 1997 after a brief illness.

On September 5, 1998, Elvin married Betty Van Sant at the Heartland Reformed Church. In 2000 he retired from farming.

Elvin was a current member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, Red Rock Threshers, and the Dutch Masters Car Club. He enjoyed organizing tractor rides, restoring old tractors (forty-five total), playing cards with his Tuesday night group, breakfast with children on Thursdays, fishing, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his five children: Linda (Roger) Hugen of Pella, Elaine (Duane) Roose of Pella, Edwin (Deanne) Van Wyk of Reasnor, Ervin (Valerie) Van Wyk of Pella, Evonn (Marty) Meyers of Pella; step-daughter: Bonnie Vander Kraats of Pella; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and his sister: Gerdena Stursma of Pella.

Those preceding him in death: his parents; his wife, Patricia; sister, Nella Ruth in infancy; five brothers: Armour, Delmar, Wallace, Dennis, Norman; sister: Anna Mae Van Mersbergen; two brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 14, 2009, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Burial took place at the Pella Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
