Genevieve Bishop Showalter - Pueblo Chieftain - September 13, 2005 - Genevieve Bishop Showalter, 86. Born Feb. 3, 1919, in Kim, Colo., passed away Sept. 10, 2005. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard Showalter; parents, Florence and Noah Bishop; and sister, Mary Lee Bishop. Survived by her brother, Marcus (Millie) Bishop; sister, Wanda Frances Whittemore; and special nieces and nephews, Sharon McGaughey, Kathy (J.R.) Ewing, Carol Edwards, Douglas Bishop, Roger (Dominique) Bishop and Loanne Bishop Hamrin. Also survived by friend, Nancy (Len) Redding; and special friends, Irene and Hazel Rhodes, who visited her very often. A special thank you to Dr. Larry Walls, Dr. Bruce Taylor and the Villa Pavilion staff. Genevieve taught school for 44 years from Happy Hands School in Kansas, to schools in Kim, Springfield and La Junta, and retired from the La Junta School District in 1984. She was instrumental in developing the Casa del Sol Retirement Center in La Junta. Genevieve was a dedicated teacher and knew that she wanted to be a teacher since she was in first grade. Memorial service, 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, Emmanuel Mennonite Church, La Junta. In lieu of food and flowers, donations may be made to the Casa del Sol Retirement Community in her memory.
