S. S. Livingston was born in December 2, 1847 in Schoharie County, New York. His wife, Martha A.Young, was born in August 1850 in Illinois. Her father was born in Rhode Island and her mother was born in Pennsylvania. They were married November 26, 1873, Beloit, Rock County, Wisconsin, and lived in Straight River Twp. in 1900.


Children: Alice P.; Maynard S.; Estella N.; Martha V.; Roy C.; and Guy S.


CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT AGE OF 81: S. S. Livingston was Resident of Straight River for 32 Years; Funeral Held Here Saturday.

With the passing last week of S. S. Livingston, prominent Straight River farmer, the ever-thinning ranks of faded blue lost another comrade, and the community in which he lived for 32years has been called upon to part with one of its most respected citzens.


Solomon Swatling Livingston was born December 2, 1847 in Schoharie County, New York. He served in the Union army during the Civil War as a young man, receiving an honorable discharge from the service at the close of hostilities.


On November 26, 1873, at Clinton, Wisconsin, he was united in marriage to Miss Martha A. Young, who survives him. To this union six children were born, one of them, the oldest daughter, dying in infancy, and a son, Maynard, passing away in 1923. The surviving sons and daughters are Miss Estella and Roy C. Livingston of Park Rapids; Mrs. J. A. Bengtson, Denver, Colorado; Guy S. Livingston, Harvey, N. D.


After his marrige Mr. Livingston made his home for a few years at Manchester, Illinois, coming with his family to Hubbard county in October, 1898, and settling on a farm in Straight River township where he made his home until the time of his death.


The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the Baptist church, the funeral sermon being preached by Elder B. O. Engen of the Seventh Day Adventist church, of which the deceased was a member. Interment was made in Greenwood Cemetery.


Relatives from out of town attending the funeral included Mrs. J. A. Bengtson, Denver, Colorado; Guy S. Livngston and daughter, Harvey, N. D.; and Mrs. Alta Aurzada, a niece and her daughter of Wadena.
