NELLIE A. TICHNELL
SWANTON ‹ Nellie A. Tichnell, 89, of 2151 Chestnut Grove Road, Swanton, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on Nov. 4, 1910, in Petersburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Maranda (Sears) Shreve. Her husband, Stewart P. Tichnell; a son, Phillip D. Tichnell; a granddaughter, Mona K. Cummings; and two brothers, Victor Ray Shreve and Charles Shreve, also preceded her in death.
Nellie was a member of the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school classes for many years. She also was a former lay-speaker who received her high school GED at the age of 70.
Surviving are three sons, Arnold L. Tichnell and wife Fay, of Chestnut Grove, David C.V. Tichnell and wife Bertha, of Elk Garden, W.Va.., and Jerry M. Tichnell and wife Janet, of Maryland Highway; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis D. Tichnell, of Chestnut Grove; one sister, Emily (Kate) Halterman, of Maysville, W.Va.; a step-sister, Phyllis (Midge) Nesselrodt, of Jordan Run, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Nelson officiating.
Interment will be in the Tichnell Cemetery, Chestnut Grove.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund.
