Steven was the first of six sons born to Delbert and Reba Kendall. He was born in Japan while his Dad served overseas in the US Air Force. He later became the older brother of Scott, Brett, Frank, Greg and Del.

Steven graduated from Hempstead High School, Class of 1974, where he was active and well-liked. He was attending Blinn College in Brenham, TX where he planned to major in Journalism. His goal was to become a writer/reporter.

After recently completing his first college year, Steven had gone from Hempstead to play tennis on the lighted court provided in Bellville, TX. He was accompanied by his close friends, Dave Hamner and Dave's younger brother Ward Hamner. As they returned a fatal crash occurred only four miles south of Hempstead. Sadly, the three young men were killed on impact.
