Son of Florida Bandmaster Browne' Greaton Cole, founder of the school band movement in the state. He graduated from Ocala High and then Riverside Military Academy. He served in the Coast guard artillery and the army air corp. Was for many years the assistant bandmaster at Ocala High and was in charge of the Jr Band. He also had his own Dance band that played all around Ocala. Later worked in the lumber business.


Married Lucille Ayer in 1938. Divorced in 1943. One child, actress Elizebeth Ashley.


Then married Peggy Holton in 1948. Three children, Charles Northern Cole, Harriett Russell Cole, Cecilia Greaton Cole
