LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Mildred "Me" Gainey Rooks, 76, of Lumberton, died Monday night, September 8, 2008 in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
She was born August 21, 1932 in Brunswick County, North Carolina; a daughter of the late Morris and Edell Mintz Gainey.
Mrs. Rooks was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church, the Robeson County Shrinettes and a graduate of Leland High School, Leland, North Carolina .
A cryptside service from the Gardens of Faith Cemetery Mausoleum will be on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with the Revs. Mark Meadows and Keith Egert officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Tony Rooks and Kathy and Art Rooks and Cindy, all of Lumberton; three grandchildren, Shane Rooks, Shawn Rooks and Zachary Rooks; a great grandson, Noah Rooks, all of Lumberton; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was precede in death by her husband, M. Sheldon Rooks; brothers, Marion Sylvester Gainey, Alonza Hill "Lonnie" Gainey Sr., Joseph N. Gainey and Thalley Gainey and sisters, Kay Pearson, Inez Shely, Alberta Sue and Mary Lillie Cherry.
The family will receive friends following the service in the mausoleum under the direction of Biggs Funeral Home.
