MAJOR SOURCES (both on Google Books)
[1] The History and Genealogy of the Gurley Family, by Albert Ebenezer Gurley, 1897

[2] Births, Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths from the Records of the Town and Churches in Mansfield, Connecticut 1703-1850, Susan W. Dimock, 1898

CONFLICTS BETWEEN [1] & [2]: Hannah's YOD is 1803 in [1] and 1805 on her headstone and in [2], so 1805 is assumed. DOBs for Hannah and her brother Nahum are reversed between p.44 of [1] and pp.89 & 91 of [2]. On p.89 of [2], Hannah is incorrectly listed last among the children of Samuel's first marriage to Hannah (named Sarah on p.43 of [1]) rather than with the children of a second marriage to another Hannah (p.91). Furthermore, [2] fails to distinguish that these two families are first and second marriages for the same Samuel. Although [1] is more authoritative about who belongs to what family, [2] is more likely to get individual dates correct from town records. That is the assumption. The headstone inscriptions partly confirm this. Nahum's headstone says he died in his 16th year, thus he was 15 which is consistent with the March 23, 1761, birth of the 2nd child of the 2nd marriage. We get no such clarity from Hannah's headstone inscribed with "45 years of age". If she was born August 5, 1758, she was 46 and if born March 23, 1761, she was 44. If the inscription meant that she died in her 45th year, then she would have the same birthdate as Nahum. The best assumption is that [2] had the birthdates correct, Hannah was the 1st child in the 2nd marriage, Nahum's headstone confirms it, and Hannah's headstone should have read "46 years of age" or else "in the 47th year."
