Samuel Zipkin July 4, 1917 - September 20, 2009 MANCHESTER, CT

- Samuel Zipkin of Manchester, CT lived a full and active 92 years. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2009 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 4th, 1917, son of Abraham and Molly (Schulman) Zipkin. Sam was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Mildred (Nason) Zipkin, and is survived by his sister, Lisa Carignan, sisters-in-law, Margaret Zipkin of Florida and Estelle Zipkin of Danielson and children, Janice and husband, Don Gagnon of Coventry, Paula Mott of Coventry, Mike Zipkin and wife, Helen of Manchester, Debbie Zipkin of Thompson, and Marcia Zipkin of Colorado. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Shane, Chrissy, Brian, Katie, Justin, Molly & Seth and was predeceased by grandson, Corey. He has six great grandchildren: Cody, Ethan, Tim, Abby, Maeve, and Sam. He enjoyed golfing, flying his single engine plane, boating, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Sam was President of the Manchester/ Vernon Ostomy Club and an active member of the Masonic Lodge of Brooklyn, CT and one of the Senior Bowling Leagues at AMF Silver Lanes. He was a past, proud member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, CT National Guard and Manchester Organ Club as well as cofounder of Advance Mold and Manufacturing in Manchester, CT. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Monday, September 28, 2009 at 11 A.M. at Westfield Cemetery, Danielson. A gathering to celebrate Sam's life will be held at a future date. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 106 Rt 32, Franklin Commons, Franklin, CT 06254. Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main St., Danielson is in charge of arrangements.
