Robert E. Seevers, 76, of Marietta (formerly of Newport) died Friday (March 2, 2007)

He was born Oct. 23 , 1930 in East Liverpool, Ohio. He enlisted in the Navy in 1948, and had a Truman year for Korean War discharge in 1952, having served all his time aboard aircraft carrier USS Leyte CV 32 ASA machinist mate.

Upon discharge, he worked for Union Carbide in Marietta for eight years before beginning work for the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers where he retired in December 1989 after 30 years of service. He was a lockman diver working on six wicket dams in Huntington District Flood Control Dam Clendening. He also worked at marietta as a sign painter and truck driver, later transferring to the repair fleet where he worked as a diesel elect engineer, and ended his tour of duty as a master Derrick boat operator.

Robert proudly belonged to the Masonic Harmar Lodge 390 York Rite bodies, Aladin Temple Shrine, Marietta Shrine Club, where he enjoyed a great deal of volunteer work to help children in Shrine Hospitals.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Glenna Seevers of Marietta; three children, Betty Simpson (Bob) of Marietta, Robert Seevers Jr. (Pearl) of Belpre, and Brenda Seevers (Laura) of Pittsburg; two grandchildren, Reggie Gordon II (Tracy) of Alabama, and Shawn Seevers of Belpre; three great-grandchildren, Kelly, Katie, and Josh; brothers, Ted Seevers and Tom Seevers, both of East Liverpool, and Jerry Seevers of Dayton.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice O.Conkle; and sister, Donna Myers, of East Liverpool.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Garden. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Masonic services wil be held at 8 p.m. Sunday.
