Enlisting in the U S Army 22 Sep 1917, Walter served in France from 14 Sep 1918 until 30 May 1919 during World War I, receiving an honorable discharge 11 Jun 1919. He was a farmer and worked at the Smoker Lumber Company for several years before retiring in 1965. He died unexpectedly while visiting his daughter the prior two weeks. Survived by 11 grandchildren.
