Charles was born to Pierre "Peter" Barrette, Sr. and Theresa LaPointe Barrette in Prairie du Chien, Crawford Co. WI (early settlers of the county). Siblings were Susan (died in infancy), Louis, Peter, Antoine, Julia (died in infancy), Moses, Paul, Samuel, Margaret and Philamon.
In 1849 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Charles was wed to Emily Josephine Dousman, daughter of Hercules Dousman and Margaret Campbell.
They became the parents of Virginia Mae (Thomas Edward Ward), Theresa (Existe Brothers), Susan (died in Infancy), Mary Jane (Charles D Brandes), Philomena "Minnie" (Lazarus "Lon" Pitt), Martha "Mattie" (Gabriel George Louis St. Germain), Emily Mae (died at the age of twenty) and Charles Louis Barrette who died the 20th of June 1875 at the age of 7yr 6mo).
Charles died at the home of daughter, Mary Jane Barrette Brandes in LaFarge, Vernon Co., WI. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery -per Obit. Have not found a marker. Most likely with Emily and children - though no one inscribed his name upon the monument.
