Louise "Pud" Abernathy, 92, a long-time resident of Birmingham, died in Huntsville on Tuesday.
She was born in Birmingham and graduated from Alabama Women's College, now the University of Montevallo. She taught in the Birmingham Public Schools for many years. After retirement, she was a long-time supporter of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, The Fern Society, and the Edgewood Garden Club. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood and Bethany Sunday School class for 46 years.
Survivors include daughters, Jill A. Gardner of Huntsville and Ann A. Benton of Birmingham; sons, Jim Abernathy of Birmingham and Billy Abernathy of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntsville with Dr. Charles Gattis officiating. Laughlin Service Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial of her ashes in Birmingham at Elmwood Cemetery at a future date.
