Hiram Kinney came to Chautauqua in 1820. For the first 6 months he worked on Dr. Laban Hazeltine's farm. Afterwards he was employed in Daniel Hazeltine's woolen factory as an operative; one of his duties was to sort wool. On New Year's Day, 1823, Hiram married Nancy at the home of Daniel Hazeltine.This was one of the first marriages in Jamestown. By 1827, Hiram was a householder on the census for James- town. The Kinneys were active workers in the advancement of their settlement. In 1850, they moved to a farm known as English Hill. He was Justice of the Peace Ostego N.Y. and Cooperstown. Member State Assembly 1832-1833
