DEATH OF PETER BECKER
Peter Becker, son of Jacob and Catherine Becker, was born in Florence township, Stephenson county, Illinois, April 19, 1866. When about two years of age he, with his parents, moved to a farm near Russell, Iowa. This place has since been his home. Here he died at 5:30 p.m. on June 2, 1919, at the age of 53 years, 1 month and 14 days.
He had been in failing health for several months before his death, but never confined to the house for any length of time and was out and about the farm until about three hours before his death, when he was suddenly seized with heart trouble. All that loving hands could do was done for his relief but to no avail. He passed away after intense suffering.
He was married to Catherine Schreck, June 27, 1897. Five children were born to this union: Mrs. E. H. Fuller, of near Woodburn, Iowa; Marie, Carrie and Herbert, at home; and Ralph, who died in infancy. His father and mother, one brother, Henry, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Lane, also preceded him in death.
Besides his wife and four children he is survived by three brothers, Jacob, of Highmore, S. D., Phillips, of Florida, Rhinehart of near Bethlehem, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Long, of Corydon, Iowa, many other relatives and friends.
In 1910 he and his family united with the Russell M. E. church, of which he was a member at the time of his death. He was a man of cheerful temperament, inclined to look on the bright side of life and will be greatly missed by those with whom he was closely associated.
Funeral services were held at the Salem M. E. church, Wednesday, June 4th, at 3:00 o'clock p.m., G. W. Koser, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Salem cemetery.
