He married Mary Elizabeth Back. Her father was John Back Jr., who was a brother to Isaac Back.
Alexander and his wife and children moved to Kansas in 1855. In 1882, he built a home in Morris County, Kansas, on Dunlap Road, in what is now Council Grove, Kansas. (Many years later, his home was found and restored; it is still there today.)
They later lived in Oklahoma for awhile. Around 1914, they headed to Kelso, Washington, because their son Levi was already living out there. Most of their children went with them. In 1916, Alexander went to Wyoming to visit two of his children who were living there--they had stopped and settled there on the way to Washington. But Alexander died there, so he was buried there.
His wife Mary died in Mount Vernon, Washington three years later.
