IRA BERNARD BAKER
Malad, Idaho - Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Malad Second Ward chapel for Ira Bernard Baker, 34, who died Friday in the Salt Lake City Veterans Hospital following a lingering illness.
Mr. Baker was born May 3, 1921 at Holbrook, Oneida County, Idaho, a son of Ira and Anna Laura (Knighton) Baker. He graduated from Malad High School and later attended Weber College and University of Idaho in Moscow.
He was a captain in World War II, serving as a B-29 pilot. During combat he was shot down and spent several days on open water before being rescued by a U.S. submarine. He also served in Japan after the war.
He was a member of the LDS Church.
Surviving are three brothers and six sisters: William E. Baker, Weiser, Idaho; Lew Baker, Malad; Dan Baker, San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Virginia Price, Dillon, Mont.; Mrs. Stella Sanger, Pocatello; Mrs. Helen Luther, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Laura Clark, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Adeline Jensen, Chamberlain, Idaho; Mrs. Afton Wood, Las Vegas, Nev. and Mrs. Iona Poulsen, Arco, Idaho.
Officiating at the services will be Bishop Myron Sorenson.
Friends may call at the home of a brother, Lew Baker, 204 South Main St., Malad, Monday evening and Tuesday prior to services.
Interment will be in Malad City cemetery under direction of Benson Funeral Home.
